Music Library Doctor
Folder ↔ DJ app

Folder Library → Rekordbox

One-pass build from a plain music folder into Rekordbox — duplicates collapsed, nested playlist folders populated, paths verified.

The problem

You have a music folder — maybe years of downloads, ripped CDs, gifts from friends — and you want it in Rekordbox. The native import in Rekordbox reads files one folder at a time, doesn't deduplicate, doesn't surface quality issues, and certainly doesn't catch fake-320 MP3s or fake FLACs hiding in the source. So you import once, find chaos, and start over.

How Music Library Doctor does it

  1. 1 Install Music Library Doctor (macOS 11+ or Windows 10/11). On first launch, Folder Library mode auto-detects your Music, iTunes, Apple Music, and Downloads folders.
  2. 2 Add any extra folders that hold music — external drives, NAS mounts, archived collections.
  3. 3 Run a Library Health scan first. Duplicate Scan collapses repeats; Audio Quality Score flags fake-320 MP3s and fake-FLACs that you probably don't want in the new library.
  4. 4 Choose Rekordbox as the target. MLD writes directly into encrypted master.db, populating nested playlist folders based on your folder structure.
  5. 5 Open Rekordbox — your library is ready, deduped, and quality-checked. Nothing got re-imported manually.

Supported today

Rekordbox · Serato DJ · VirtualDJ (incl. Favorite Folders) on Windows 10+ and macOS (Apple Silicon + Intel).

Why native integration matters

Importing a raw folder into Rekordbox normally means trusting whatever the file tags say and praying there are no duplicates or fake-320s. MLD audits the folder first — acoustic fingerprint duplicate detection, FFT-based quality scoring — and then writes encrypted master.db with the clean set. Writes require atomic transactions, and Rekordbox must be closed or it will overwrite your edits when it next saves. MLD handles that under the hood.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install Rekordbox first?

Yes — MLD writes into Rekordbox's native library, so the app has to be installed on the machine. Rekordbox doesn't need to be running during the write; in fact, it should be closed.

What if my folder has duplicates and fake-320 MP3s?

Run the Library Health scan before the build. Duplicate Scan groups copies of the same recording (acoustic fingerprint matches across formats and bitrates). Audio Quality Score flags fake-320 MP3s and fake-FLACs with a 0–100 score per file. Both run before the Rekordbox library is created.

Will the folder structure become nested playlist folders?

MLD maps your folder structure onto nested playlist folders sensibly — top-level folders become playlist folders, nested folders become nested playlists. You can review the plan before any write.

Does my music leave my machine?

No. All scanning, scoring, and writing happens locally. MLD's local database is SQLCipher-encrypted; audio files never leave the computer.

What about Plex / Navidrome / Roon — can I keep using them?

Yes. Folder Library mode doesn't require uninstalling anything. You can run Rekordbox from the same files Plex/Navidrome/Roon already read.
